The
Bungay Black Dog Running Club.
Bungay
Black Dog Running Club meets for weekly training sessions
at the sports hall and use the High School track during the
summer months. Track events are held in the summer as well
as a regular programme of cross country and road races throughout
the year.
A
marathon
and half marathon event has been held annually since 1982
and from the first Bungay Marathon the Black Dog Running Club evolved. Although the marathon is completely separate from the running club, many of the committee are running club members. However the Black Dog Running Club are involved in other fixtures. All the profits from the marathon and half marathon go to local charities.
The
Bungay Black Dog holds a 10km race on Good Friday every year,
the proceeds from the race are presented to a local charity. However, we hold many other races, in fact, there is hardly a month without a race of some sorts!. We have the increasingly popular St Peter 20km race and on Good Friday we have the charity 10km races and quite often, it is held in the same week as the Bungay Marathon!
We also hold our Summer series of 10km races at Broome in June, July and August - these are held on a Tuesday evening at 7:30. In November we normally hold a invitational 10km race which this year was held at a new venue for us at Earsham with a pint or two and a meal at the Earsham Queen Pub - we are not strangers there! And that brings us to the infamous Groggy Doggy Boxing day Cross Country run on Bungay Common.
