Roger Wing Memorial Good Friday 10K 2008

Cancer charity presentation Following the huge fundraising success of the Club’s annual Good Friday 10K road race, members of the Committee presented the benefiting charities with their cheques, at a meeting held at the The Griffin, Yoxford, Suffolk, on Wednesday 30th April.
Upon receiving the cheque for £1,057.53, members of the East Suffolk Prostate Cancer Support Group, John Dent, Diana, Keith and Chris Southcott were delighted to reveal the money will be used to fund the making of a DVD video to provide better information for prostate cancer sufferers and those affected by the disease. The charity says the DVD will help to supplement the leaflet information already available in the Ipswich Hospital, and promote better understanding and awareness about the disease. In addition to this, the funds raised will help to decorate and refurbish a dedicated room at the hospital that can be used for the Support Group members to talk to patients.
Claire Pulford of Breast Cancer Care, said of her charity’s £784.58, that the funds raised will help to maintain the many services offered to patients and their families, of the 120 people every day in the UK who are told they have Breast Cancer. BCC provide a range of services including a helpline, support forums, and a range of publications and the ‘ask the nurse’ service. It relies on charity fundraising to continue with this work.
Both charities expressed their thanks and appreciation to all those hardy runners that ran on the day. The generosity of the runners was overwhelming, with many contributing much more than the race entry fee asked for. A great part of the funds raised was put into the donation boxes and the refreshments kitty. The youngsters in the fun run also boosted the money raised. With Bungay Black Dog Running Club covering all the expenses of the event, there were no deductions taken from the race income. This meant that every penny given by the runners went to the charities.
