VI runner taster session
Next Saturday (12 October) 12 noon to 2pm at BARC. Calling all guide runners and any members who would like to help. We are holding our first taster session for Visually Impaired (VI) runners at BARC. Please come along and share our love of running with those who would like to give it a try with a helping hand to guide them.
Club satellite grant
We are delighted to announce that our satellite club, BBDRC Accessible Sport, has been awarded an England Athletics grant of £550 to pay venue hire and help buy equipment  for our indoors Sportshall themed DSActive sessions (next session 19 October 1.30 to 3.30pm Ditchingham Village Hall). Our junior section can also use the equipment, so everyone’s a winner.
Hidden disabilities workshop
Mik Carr writes:
As a club we do incredibly well making sport accessible to athletes with visible disabilities, such as visual impairment and Down’s Syndrome. Several club members are trained Guide Runners, and many attend the sessions we run with DS Aware.
The vast majority of disabilities are not immediately apparent, they are ‘invisible’. To raise awareness of these hidden disabilities, there will be a two-hour workshop after training on Thursday 17 October. It should be an interesting and informative session.
There are 18 places available on a first-come-first-served basis: the workshop is open to coaches, administrators and run leaders. Venue is Broome Village Hall meeting room, from 19:45 til 22:00.
Please email me if you would like to attend.
