Bungay Black Dog Running Club Accessible Sport
BBDRC is proud to announce two initiatives in 2019 to promote the inclusion of athletes with disabilities in our running community
DS Active
Earlier this year, BBDRC entered into a partnership with DS Active (DSA). DSA is a programme run by the Down’s Syndrome Association and aims to offer as many opportunities as possible for people with Down’s syndrome to lead a healthy and active life. BBDRC offers a monthly athletics session to athletes with DS which covers all aspects of running, jumping and throwing. As a partner club to DSA, our coaches have attended the impairment specific coach education workshop provided by DSA and are fully licensed & DBS checked with England Athletics. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our sessions. These are generally held on the 3rd Saturday of each month. From October – March our sessions are held indoors and will cover activities offered by the Sportshall programme. Sessions cost £1 to join. Younger siblings are welcome to join in but we do ask that in this case a parent/carer remains to help supervise.
What Do I Need?
Layers are best as they can be added/removed during the session as required. Please wear comfortable trainer style footwear and bring a non-fizzy drink – water is fine.
How Fit Do I Need To Be?
The sessions are open to all abilities – no previous experience of athletics required! All you need is a sense of fun and a willingness to give it a go.

Guide Running at BBDRC
In April 2019 a number of our club volunteers attended England Athletics “Sightloss Awareness and Guide Running” workshop to extend the support available to one of our club members with visual impairment.
We now have a pool of half a dozen licensed guides and have recently welcomed another member with a VI. No previous running experience is needed – we offer sessions aimed at Beginner Runners and all-ability club sessions on Tuesday night 6.30 – 7.30pm at Bungay Area Running Club where we have our own training field away from traffic.
To ensure that we can provide the level of support that you need, please get in touch with our coaching team accessiblesport@bungayblackdogrunningclub.co.uk who will do their best to either phone you or meet up in person before you come to club.
