Update from the Chair

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had a fabulous time and for those on the banks of the River Waveney, were able to keep dry. I think Christmas Eve, for some, really did make you think 2020 just couldn’t get any worse! Well, we are now in the throes of Tier 4 for the foreseeable future. What does this mean for the club? Guidance states that we can do unlimited exercise alone, with one other person, or in your family bubble. Social distancing must be adhered to at all times. Unfortunately, this means that all BARC and hills coaching sessions have ceased and no LiRF-led runs on a Thursday until further notice. Do not be dismayed! We recognise how important it is to keep momentum going and have been exchanging ideas on how we can best do this. We will have the weekly coaching plan in the newsletter
Tony has details below of ‘run buddies’ that you can arrange to meet up with. Nothing better to make you get your kit on knowing that you can’t let somebody down!
Byron has introduced ‘Race Yourself’, another great initiative to get you up and out
From 4 January, BARC will again be open to book on Eventbrite for one hour slots. This one comes with a warning. You must consider whether your journey to BARC is practical and sensible to do within the confines of Tier 4 and and only book for yourself, your run buddy/ guide, or your family bubble. Please ensure you follow the safety rules posted, and don’t forget there is no parking on site and no toilet facilities. It goes without saying that we are right on a very busy road and exposed to criticism if the rules are broken. If this happens, we would close BARC for bookings immediately. See below for the bookings link.
These are just a few ideas and there are a few more in the pipeline. They are not all new and we would really welcome your suggestions. It’s not all about running. Social contact for some is so important. In the first lockdown, there were Zoom meetings and photo competitions – simple but very effective in keeping morale raised and helping to support each other in difficult times. If you have any bright ideas, let us know and we will help to get them going.
